Expenditures with pleasure

I thought I would drop a few heavy notes at the videostore today, but I could not have foreseen the windfall (mutually for the business and yours profligately) awaiting me in the little frequented VHS aisles.

They were selling all their videos for $3 each.

I trawled the "foreign" section first and came up a string of pearls--"Ran", "The Funeral", "Songs from the Second Floor", and "La Haine". I wished there would be still a "Tampopo" left, but alas, there were many empty slots between the less pageanted remainders. Was tempted by "Picnic at Hanging Rock", but didn't really want to imagine watching it again. Too intense, frightening, claustrophic.

Those were already finds of the month, but "comedy" turned out even more winsome gems (in ascending order of pleasure quotient for the inveterate bargain/specialness hunter):

1. Bedazzled (underrated, silly of course, but thoroughly enjoyable, something that can't be said about a number of better films)

2.Fawlty Towers (!!!)

3. Monty Python's Flying Circus (!!!!!)

Sure, the total would have bought a couple of weeks of groceries, but how dizzyingly satisfied I am with this conspicuous consumption. I shall be feasting from now till spring.

In other happy happenings, K and Y came over for movies and dinner today and brought over some scrumptious treats of their own. Good, relaxed company, simple but flavourful repasts, summer easing into old age, a good life.

Bedazzled is classic. Good picks!

Missing you much from the UK. Here on a 3-week trip with 30 kids and 2 colleagues. It is swelteringly hot here -- and ppl are not used to having air-conditioning. Doing some walking around, catching up with secondary school friends and getting used to the slower pace. It is going to be a challenge to wind up for the HK lifestyle again. Hahaha!

Much love,
Feldspaar

P.S. The current blog is still at http://www.xanga.com/feldspaar
