“Chinese language is really very important” from The People’s Daily

Chinese language
is really very important;
English is not so important
in comparison with
the Chinese language.

Watermelons’ influence
is obviously greater
than that of sesame seeds.

* * *

But the Chinese people are not
what they were.
Some people worship things
foreign and despise their own parent
language. This is pitiable.

Wrongly written-,
misused characters
and grammatical mistakes
hurt the feelings
of the Chinese people.

* * *

Youngsters! Arm yourself mentally
with fine Chinese civilization, only then
will you be a Chinese.

* * *

Do not run down your own parent
language by mixing in foreign words.
February 21st is World Mother Tongue Day—
Let the Chinese language
go global as English does.
